Namrata Ukani
visual designer, writer and draw-er
Hello!
I've spent my whole childhood reading, writing and drawing. (also cycling, table tennis and board games)
Later I went to architecture school, and learnt how to solve problems from a zoomed out perspective. The 5 year intensive course made me observant, perseverant and sensitive towards nature and the built environment. More importantly, it sharpened my drawing skills.
Now, I'm contributing to the publication world with my stories and illustrations. And religiously maintain a visual journal.

This drawing captures what makes me, me. It is all the experiences, right from schooling and parenting. I've been super fortunate to have gone to the S. N. Kansagra school. Will always be grateful for teachers like Fatema Kapaasi, and Vidhi Ghetia who made me feel heard, understood and encouraged my creative self. All the books I read: Roald Dahl, Quentin Blake, Meg Cabot shaped and influenced me. Prachi Shah, and Manaal Soni: two people who've been my constant cheerleaders. Manan, my brother, who has helped me build this website, and been a rock solid support in my life. It is the shows like Parks and Recreation, Marvellous Mrs. Maisel, High Potential, The Bold Type: which were quite empowering. Studio MADe, my internship office: which was so unconventional, it challenged my ideas, and Madhu, who helped me get the correct tools for this industry. Ajit Rao, who has just been a constant compass, a torchbearer. Julia Cameron's 'The artists way': which has been a much needed reassurance.
All of this makes me, me; and I'm grateful to be contributing to the society in the way I love: by drawing.
